Every day, employees at Healics work to help people live happier, healthier, more vibrant lives. Our efforts to help others also extend beyond the workplace through gifts of time and resources to assist those in need in our community.
Make A Wish Wisconsin
In March 2014, Healics began contributing dollars to help grant wishes to children through Make a Wish Wisconsin. As an organization, we donate funds following the completion of our clients’ health risk assessment events as a way of saying thanks. We’ve helped six children — Zuza, Ruben, Madelyn, Smith, Cody and Mason — realize a dream.
Mason is a 14-year-old boy who is currently battling genetic disorder called Cystinosis. This metabolic disease causes amino acid, cystine, to accumulate in various organs. Although born with this disease, Mason has not always been fighting on his own; he was born with his sister Livia, who was also diagnosed. In September of 2014, Livia passed away suddenly. As the family pressed on to survive, they did so together and grew to be inseparable. When Healics heard Mason’s story and his willingness to never give up, even without his sister by his side, we knew his wish had to be granted. We worked with Make-A-Wish staff to give Mason his wish of a 24’ aboveground swimming pool at his house. With this pool, Mason and his family will be able to spend countless hours together, making memories that are going to last a lifetime.
“As we swim together as a family, dragonflies have started buzzing around us. Dancing and whipping through the sky. We are pretty sure Livia sent them to us. Her sign to us that she likes the pool too.” – Mason’s Mother, Kirsten.
Cody is a 9-year-old from Greendale who is living with muscular dystrophy. He loves to play video games, watch sports on TV, watch Nickelodeon and play with his pets. Cody’s wish was to go to Hawaii with his family, and thanks to everyone at Healics, they’re off to Maui in 2017. The family will stay right on the ocean at the Sheraton Maui to enjoy the pristine beaches and swim in the clear waters. A highlight of the trip will an authentic Hawaiian luau. Aloha to Hawaii Cody!

Zuza is a 4-year-old from Waukesha who is living with acute myeloid leukemia. She enjoys drawing, sculpting with Play-Doh and playing games on her parents’ cell phones. She also loves listening to Disney music. In April, 2016, Healics reached our goal to grant Zuza’s wish to go to Walt Disney World® Resort. Ruben is a 7-year-old boy from Milwaukee, who is living with an inherited neurological disorder and a seizure disorder. While he faces more challenges than the average child, Ruben has a frequent smile on his face. He enjoys going for rides and playing with noise-making toys. He is also a fan of classical music. Ruben’s wish was to visit the Wisconsin Dells, and thanks to the team at Healics, he and his family did in the fall of 2015.
When the Healics team first learned of Madelyn in 2014, she was a 10-year-old living with cystic fibrosis. She loved riding her bike, watching television and reading. More than anything, Madelyn wanted to visit Hawaii. Fast forward to 2015, and her wish has come true. Healics employees gave generously to help this young girl realize her dream. Now, she doesn’t have to just read about Hawaii. She can close her eyes and remember the scent of the leis, the sound of the ocean and the feel of the sand beneath her feet.
Fourteen-year-old Smith, who is living with rhabdomyosarcoma, wanted to go on a family vacation to Costa Rica to see the beach and learn how to surf. In the spring of 2014, Healics employees made his wish come true. Smith and his family traveled by limo to the airport, where they caught a flight to Costa Rica. Once there, they stayed at a beach resort on the ocean. They zip-lined through trees, toured the rain forest by ATV, relaxed on the beach and dined like royalty. Private surfing lessons for his family were the highlight of Smith’s amazing family trip.

Hearts, Heroes, Healics
Particularly during the holiday season, Healics looks for ways to share our own good fortune. At our 2015 holiday party, employees were asked to select an American flag (or two or three) off a decorated tree. Each flag noted a wish item that employees would purchase for veterans at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee. The Healics team opened their hearts gladly and filled a car with presents for the local men and women who served our country over the years. Gifts were delivered to the VA Center on 12/23/15, just in time for Christmas.
